罗伯图斯的秘书表示，在事发4小时前曾经看到过罗伯图斯。当时，罗伯图斯称自己被头痛所困扰，需要回到办公室服药。此后，他的上司在联系不到他的情况下进入其办公室查看情况，发现罗伯图斯已经窒息身亡。

有员工表示，罗伯图斯近期曾不断表示工作压力大，“环境氛围紧张”，而且抱怨他为“办公室斗争”所困扰。在公司内部，高级总裁帕沙耶夫最近成为罗伯图斯的直接领导，有消息说罗伯图斯和新老板之间发生过争吵，而罗伯图斯遗体也是被帕沙耶夫发现的，当时帕沙耶夫因为找不到他而大发雷霆，还催促下属们四处寻找罗伯图斯的下落。

罗伯图斯的医生表示，他的身体非常健康，没有慢性基础病，而且喜欢户外运动。值得注意的是，当他的遗体被发现时，卢克石油方面并没有打电话呼叫医院的救护车，而是派出了该公司自己的急救车辆。

作为经济学家，罗伯图斯为卢克石油工作超过30年，多次获得地方和俄罗斯国家级荣誉，从未出现重大失误。

在俄乌冲突爆发初期，卢克石油曾发出声明，表示对“在乌克兰发生的悲惨事件非常关切”。作为俄罗斯第二大的石油企业，在俄乌冲突后，西方国家将该公司列入制裁名单。

3月12日，卢克石油承认在下诺夫哥罗德地区的一家工厂“发生了一起事件”后造成停产，稍后当地政府承认遭遇了乌克兰无人机的袭击。
